La Trobe University: Master of Internet of Things (IoT)
La Trobe is the first Australian University to introduce a specialised program-Master of Internet of Things (IOT). It combines technical knowledge with practical learning opportunities.
The Internet of Things (IoT) describes the network of physical objects— “things”—that are embedded with sensors, software, and other technologies for the purpose of connecting and exchanging data with other devices and systems over the internet.
In simpler terms, it is a system of interrelated computing devices, mechanical and digital machines, objects, animals or people that are provided with unique identifiers (UIDs) and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction. These devices range from ordinary household objects to sophisticated industrial tools. With more than 7 billion connected IoT devices today, experts are expecting this number to grow by 22 billion by 2025.
La Trobe expert faculties help students to connect IoT technology to the world. They will help to develop advanced programming and systems design skills. Students will be able to discover the key components of IoT, including platforms, protocols and protection.
La Trobe focuses on turning the vision of IoT technology into reality. Students have choice to either be in the part of industry through exclusive innovation projects or help shape the future of the IoT with a research thesis.
The average salaries of IoT professionals range from around AUD $69,000 per year to upwards of AUD $115,000 per year.
Why Study Internet of Things at La Trobe University:
Learn advanced skills in IoT programming and systems design, alongside fundamental aspects of IoT technology such as protocols, application areas, and security
Gain technical knowledge and practical experience that build the adaptable skills needed for rewarding careers in the high-tech, high-skilled ICT industry.
La Trobe has consulted with industry experts to create this degree and build job-ready graduates.
Students can create industry relationships by being directly involved with ‘smart city’ initiatives through the Work Integrated Learning program, including opportunities with the City of Greater Bendigo, Mildura, Shepparton, Smart City Alliance, and Albury-Wodonga City Council.
Students can choose between three capstone project pathways to gain practical IoT experience in their final year of study: an applied knowledge innovation project, a research thesis or an industry-based learning placement.
Placement in Bendigo's many IoT technology projects like Clever Weather or Long Range IoT Network.
Scholarships available for Nepalese students:
- Early bird acceptance grant: $1,500 -$2,000 AUD (for limited time),
- La Trobe South Asia Scholarship – up to 30% reduction in the total tuition fee.
La Trobe provides Industry based scholarship AUD $17,280 competitively awarded (up to 24 weeks of full-time placement)
The Internet of Things has changed businesses and industries forever. Skilled IoT professionals are needed in sectors like healthcare, cybersecurity, agriculture, construction and finance. La Trobe graduates will be ready to play a leading role in the digital revolution. Possible career options include:
(IoT Product) Test Engineer
Develop test plans for IoT product evaluation. Help enhance test automation and data analytics frameworks. Conduct performance measurements on a range of IoT devices.
Use data to implement and maintain leading-edge IoT analytic systems and ensure only relevant information is filtered the processing system of a device.
Industrial UI/UX designer
Make IoT technology user friendly by developing the software and features needed for people to navigate and use devices.
Create, test and evaluate new interoperable simulation system designs to help software communicate and exchange data with other programs.
Graduates can also follow alternative paths into the IoT industry and pursue a career as part of a business incubator or start-up.
