Develop your skills as an innovative content creator to set yourself up for success. You'll learn how to work in a team to bring your vision to life for the screen, while gaining a thorough grounding in the history, practice and critical analysis of film and new technologies, including virtual production.

This hands-on, production-focused degree will equip you with the skills and practical experiences to thrive in this dynamic, competitive, constantly evolving field. You'll gain essential knowledge and studio experience in areas like:

Film Production: Prepare for the modern production landscape by developing advanced skills in cameras, lighting, sound and editing tools, enabling you to transform scripts into captivating visual narratives.

Streaming Television: Gain experience in the dynamic landscape of digital streaming and television, learning how to leverage various platforms, analyse industry trends and audiences, and develop content, while refining skills in single and multi-camera studio and location productions.

Writing and development: Write and develop ideas for any screen medium-from linear screenplays to narrative design.

Virtual Production and VFX: Discover how to create content with virtual production and its innovative methods, including motion capture, LED wall technology, photogrammetry, camera tracking, and virtual lighting through real-time game engines.

3D Art and Environments: Learn to interpret visual concepts and artistic styles to create appealing 3D characters, props, vehicles, and environments for games, film and animation.

Post-production: Develop skills in the creative application of advanced compositing techniques including animated typography, motion graphics and green screen concepts, as well as mastering compositing workflows, color correction, and node-based compositing tools.

Take advantage of our workshop, seminar, and master class programs delivered by local and international experts including Multi-Oscar award-winning producer, Lord David Puttnam CBE and renowned Australian filmmaker Bruce Beresford.

On-campus film production facilities foster a professional learning environment, with access to high-end digital cinema cameras and dollies, LED lighting and sound recording equipment consistent with current local and international industry practice. Studio facilities allow you to work on sound stage, multi-camera, motion capture and virtual production projects, then complete them in our post-production suites, recording studios and 95-seat cinema

Screen your work, submit to film festivals and awards, and collaborate with Griffith Film School animators and games designers, as well as Queensland College of Art and Design artists and designers, and musicians from Griffith University's Queensland Conservatorium.

Attendance information

The Bachelor of Film and Screen Media Production program is offered full-time and on-campus at South Bank.

If you are an International student on a student visa, you must ensure that you enrol in a way that will allow you to complete your enrolment within the expected program duration as stated on your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).

Entry Requirements

Qualification: Nepalese Proficiency Certificate
Your entry requirements include: Grade average of 89 in the final year results
Qualification: School Leaving Certificate Examination awarded by National Examinations Board
Your entry requirements include: Grade average of 3.6 in the final year results

English language requirements apply to International applicants and other applicants whose previous study was undertaken in a language other than English. The minimum English language requirements for such applicants for entry to this program are as follows:
A minimum overall band score of 6.5 on IELTS (Academic) with no sub-score of less than 6.0
OR a minimum score of 575 on TOEFL
OR an internet-based (iBT) TOEFL score of 79 (no sub-score less than 19)
OR no score less than 3+ in each skill of the ISLPR (conducted by ISLPR Language Services only)
OR a minimum overall score of 176 (no score less than 169) on C1 Advanced (formerly Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English) or C2 Proficiency (formerly Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English)
OR an overall score of 58 in the Pearson Test of English (Academic) with no score less than 50.

Tuition fees

An International student pays tuition fees.

Students are liable for tuition fees for the courses they are enrolled in as at the census date.

The tuition fee for students who commence their program prior to 2014 is charged according to the approved program fee for the trimester in which the student commenced the program.
