Study human services and bring real change to people's lives. This degree will equip you to work with individuals, families, and communities. You will learn from experts with links to health and community sectors, and government and non-government organisations. You will learn about human services in Australia and develop the knowledge and skills needed to build a better future for individuals and families in need, younger and older people, and persons living with disability. Through the course of your studies, you will develop a clear and insightful understanding of the principles of social justice, empowerment, and social inclusion. You will learn through hands-on experience as you undertake a professional placement in your final year of study.

Honours is available through an additional year of study.

Graduates of this program will be eligible to apply for registration with the Australian Community Workers Association (ACWA) subject to meeting any additional requirements that may be stipulated by the ACWA. As these requirements may change from time to time, students should contact the ACWA to confirm registration requirements.

Attendance information

The Bachelor of Human Services is offered to International students full-time over three years on-campus at Gold Coast and Logan campuses.

The Distance Education offering of the Bachelor of Human services is not available to International students.

As a full-time student, you will generally attend 10-15 hours of scheduled classes per week throughout the trimester. Classes may be scheduled during the day and evening throughout the week.

The program includes a practical professional placement in the second trimester of the third year for which you must be available five working days each week.

The Bachelor of Human Services on-campus program includes one mandatory course in the third year of the program. You may be required to do other intensive courses depending on the pathway you choose.

Canadian Colleges Pathway (Trimester 1 and Trimester 2 entry)

This pathway can be completed over 1-1.5 years. The courses in this pathway are available either on-campus or off-campus online mode:

Students applying to study online in Australia will require a type of visa (other than a student visa) which has no limitations on study.

Students can apply to study online outside Australia without any visa requirements.

If you are an International student on a student visa, you must ensure that you enrol in a way that will allow you to complete your enrolment within the expected program duration as stated on your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).

Entry Requirements

Qualification: Nepalese Proficiency Certificate

Your entry requirements include: Grade average of 89 in the final year results

Qualification: School Leaving Certificate Examination awarded by National Examinations Board

English language requirements apply to International applicants and other applicants whose previous study was undertaken in a language other than English. The minimum English language requirements for such applicants for entry to this program are as follows:

  • A minimum overall band score of 6.5 on IELTS (Academic) with no sub-score of less than 6.0
  • OR a minimum score of 575 on TOEFL
  • OR an internet-based (iBT) TOEFL score of 79 (no sub-score less than 19)
  • OR no score less than 3+ in each skill of the ISLPR (conducted by ISLPR Language Services only)
  • OR a minimum overall score of 176 (no score less than 169) on C1 Advanced (formerly Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English) or C2 Proficiency (formerly Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English)
  • OR an overall score of 58 in the Pearson Test of English (Academic) with no score less than 50.

Tuition fees

An International student pays tuition fees.

Students are liable for tuition fees for the courses they are enrolled in as at the census date.

The tuition fee for students who commence their program prior to 2014 is charged according to the approved program fee for the trimester in which the student commenced the program.
