As a Bachelor of Musical Theatre graduate, you will have gone through many facets of training to become highly skilled, musically adaptable and equipped to enter professional life as a creative and flexible 21st century musical theatre performer.

As a student, you will be exposed to diverse musical theatre styles and to the broadly accepted musical skills of aural awareness training, music theory and ensemble work appropriate to this genre.

Studying musical theatre at the Queensland Academy of Excellence in Musical Theatre will provide you with intensive practical training focusing on producing a versatile and authentic performer - one who is successful at being a true company member as they are proficient in singing, dancing and acting.

The productions included in the degree emulate professional productions, thereby providing students with authentic professional experiences.

Attendance information

The Bachelor of Musical Theatre is offered full time and on campus at South Bank and at our studios in the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC).

If you are an International student on a student visa, you must ensure that you enrol in a way that will allow you to complete your enrolment within the expected program duration as stated on your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).

Managing Study Interruptions

Leave of Absence

Taking a leave of absence from this program is permitted, subject to conditions outlined in the Enrolment Procedure and receiving approval from the Program Director or their nominee.

Readmission: Students seeking readmission to this program require approval from the Program Director. If readmission is sought for Trimester 1, application should be made by the first week of August in the previous year. For readmission to Trimester 2, application should be made at least three months prior to the commencement of that trimester. An audition may be required.

There is an identified shortage of professionally trained musical theatre performers throughout Australia. At the same time, there is an increasing number of musical theatre productions being toured throughout Australia and an increasing demand for musical theatre product.

As a graduate, you will have honed your skills in singing, acting and dancing, with a view to performing in cabaret, theatre, television, film and musical theatre, as well as more diverse entertainment mediums such as festivals, theme parks and cruises. There is endless variety in this broad area of entertainment. It is expected that graduates will write and produce their own work for public performance.

Entry Requirements

Qualification: Nepalese Proficiency Certificate

Your entry requirements include: Grade average of 89 in the final year results

Qualification: School Leaving Certificate Examination awarded by National Examinations Board

Your entry requirements include: Grade average of 3.6 in the final year results

Applicants are required to attend an audition where their abilities in singing, acting and dance are assessed. While no prior formal music theory studies are mandated, familiarity with at least basic music theory will be beneficial.


English language requirements apply to International applicants and other applicants whose previous study was undertaken in a language other than English. The minimum English language requirements for such applicants for entry to this program are as follows:

A minimum overall band score of 6.5 on IELTS (Academic) with no sub-score of less than 6.0

OR a minimum score of 575 on TOEFL

OR an internet-based (iBT) TOEFL score of 79 (no sub-score less than 19)

OR no score less than 3+ in each skill of the ISLPR (conducted by ISLPR Language Services only)

OR a minimum overall score of 176 (no score less than 169) on C1 Advanced (formerly Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English) or C2 Proficiency (formerly Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English)

OR an overall score of 58 in the Pearson Test of English (Academic) with no score less than 50.

Tuition fees

An International student pays tuition fees.

Students are liable for tuition fees for the courses they are enrolled in as at the census date.

The tuition fee for students who commence their program prior to 2014 is charged according to the approved program fee for the trimester in which the student commenced the program.
