If you're keen to work toward a career as a psychologist, this degree will give you a thorough grounding in clinical, developmental, biological, cognitive, and social and organisational psychology.
You'll learn how to use interpersonal skills and the principles of counselling to help people with personal, health, vocational and social difficulties. You will also learn how to apply psychological theories to topics such as thinking and perceiving, motivation, stress, health and group behaviour.
In your fourth year, you'll begin formal research training and be introduced to professional psychological practice. You'll complete an honours research project and study four core courses. To be eligible for the fourth year of study, you'll need to achieve the required level of academic performance in the earlier years of the degree.
As part of your study, you will have the opportunity to put your academic studies into practice through a professional practice placement.

Professional recognition
As a graduate of the Honours year in Psychology you may be eligible to apply to undertake postgraduate studies in Psychology. You may be eligible to apply for associate membership with the Australian Psychological Society. For further information on provisional or general registration as a Psychologist, refer to the Psychology Board of Australia.
International students or students for whom English is not the first or native language should refer to the Psychology Board of Australia.for information on the required IELTS score for provisional registration as a Psychologist.
Attendance information
The Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) is offered full-time via blended mode at the Gold Coast and Mount Gravatt campuses. You would generally expect to commit 100 - 150 hours per trimester to study for each course you are enrolled in. This would involve attending scheduled (i.e. set timetabled) online lectures and on-campus small group active learning classes, as well as engaging in asynchronous (non-timetabled) online learning modules and independent study and assessment completion. Scheduled classes may be set during the day and evening throughout the week.
If you are an International student on a student visa, you must ensure that you enrol in a way that will allow you to complete your enrolment within the expected program duration as stated on your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).

You'll be prepared to work in mental health, community, educational, organisational and forensic settings, as well as areas such as job placement and recruitment, career counselling and guidance, and social research.
Psychology graduates are employed in a wide range of occupations and industries, including in human resource management, aged care services, the police service and defence forces, marketing, welfare and community services, children's services and family support, correctional services, and mental health services. You may find work as a substance abuse and addiction counsellor, workforce and performance manager, disability support worker, community corrections officer or child safety officer.
You can also pursue further studies to prepare yourself for work as a clinical psychologist, organisational psychologist or other specialist psychologist.

Tuition fees
An International student pays tuition fees.
Students are liable for tuition fees for the courses they are enrolled in as at the census date.
The tuition fee for students who commence their program prior to 2014 is charged according to the approved program fee for the trimester in which the student commenced the program.
