RMIT's Bachelor of Engineering (Electronic and Computer Systems Engineering) (Honours) / Bachelor of Business will prepare you to become an engineering manager.

You will graduate from this degree ready to move into an engineering management role either relatively early in your career or after a period of experience as a professional engineer, rather than having to undertake further study.

The engineering degree will develop knowledge and skills that will enable you to find better solutions to challenges in the design, construction and maintenance of electronic hardware, embedded systems, firmware development, communication and network systems.

This could include the automation of electrical and electronic systems; audio and visual information acquisition, digital signal processing; human-machine interaction, industrial or medical instrumentation and monitoring; reconfigurable logic development; distributed computing and provision of security for computer systems and networks.

You will also learn to design and build devices and systems that transfer and store information via radio frequency or optical fibre transmissions, and manage and secure the flow of information through such systems.

The degree in business will develop your skills in the field of business management. The business degree is flexible, allowing you to develop generalist business knowledge or undertake more focused studies through a choice of majors, minors and cross-disciplinary study options.

As a graduate of the Bachelor of Engineering (Electronic and Computer Systems Engineering) (Honours) / Bachelor of Business, you will have the skills you need to move quickly into management roles in your chosen field.

Contemporary managers are increasingly expected to exercise strong ethical judgement and to be dedicated to a process of continuous learning about their practice. They are also expected to work flexibly and effectively with those around them in various organisational structures.

Electronic and computer systems engineers design and make electronic or computer-based products, or design, install and maintain communication systems and networks for businesses.

Universities and governments also require engineers to maintain and improve their electronic technologies and computer networks.

Other roles exist in industries including, power generation and distribution, aerospace, automotive, manufacturing, biomedical, resource, defence, and primary industries.

You could also choose to run your own business, providing services in your chosen specialisation.

Entry requirements

To study this course you will need to complete one of the following English proficiency tests:

IELTS (Academic): minimum overall band of 6.5 (with no individual band below 6.0)

TOEFL (Internet Based Test - IBT): minimum overall score of 79 (with minimum of 13 in Reading, 12 in Listening, 18 in Speaking and 21 in Writing)

Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE (A)): minimum score of 58 (with no communication band less than 50)

Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE): minimum of 176 with no less than 169 in any component.Entry requirements
