Master of Data Science

La Trobe's Master of Data Science will give you the technical and practical expertise needed for a rewarding career interpreting and working with data. Developed in partnership with researchers and industry, you can choose from three data-discipline streams. Be set to master the data for any issue, in any industry.

You'll learn:

Study advanced subjects in computer science, mathematics and statistics, then choose one of:

·         Big data and cloud computing

o    Work at the forefront of the Big Data and cloud industries by using your scientific data findings to help organisations plan strategically.

o    Big Data and cloud computing are ever-evolving fields, so the demand for specialists is only set to increase.

·         Analytical science

o    Develop a high level of proficiency in data-analysis, modern statistical software, meta-analysis, analysis of repeated measures data and models for bioinformatics.

o    Choose elective subjects such as advanced statistics, health sciences and business and computing technologies.

·         Bioinformatics

o    Learn about the collection, classification, storage and analysis of biological and biochemical information using computers – specifically in relation to molecular genetics and genomics.

The qualification awarded on graduation is recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 9.

o    Develop methods of research and analysis in relation to biological data.

o    Work in teams and individually to find solutions to problems.

·         Machine-learning engineer

o    Use your detailed understanding of machine learning, big data, cloud technology and mathematics to create efficient and effective machine learning solutions.

·         Business intelligence analyst

o    Design, script and build business intelligence solutions for business intelligence.

o    Create data models, reports and conduct security analysis.

·         Statistician

o    Provide statistical support to management and stakeholders.

o    Design, analyse and report on statistical data.

o    Improve data collection and storage.
