Overview

  • As a new postgraduate provision, the course prepares you to become a management professional, who can navigate the rapidly evolving social media world, at national and international levels. Our approach combines cutting-edge theories with contemporary case studies of real-life situations from across the globe.
  • We will equip you with a wide range of key social media management skills to thrive in a complex and evolving media landscape and support you to become a leader in business, culture, and entrepreneurship.
  • You will acquire critical thinking, analysis, research, planning and management techniques which can be used in a range of sectors and contexts beyond the traditional media industries. In developing a deep understanding of historical debates and present issues, you will be in a strong position to face any challenge your future may bring in a wide range of industrial and cultural sectors.
  • Together we will survey prevailing global concerns regarding identity, equality, big data, politics and the economy framed by the production, distribution, and consumption of social media.
  • We will support and extend this by hands-on teaching, where you will be able to develop your practical management competencies and to create a rich portfolio of work and contacts. You will leave the course with strong transferable skills, management skills and the digital media expertise needed to excel your chosen career. As such, this programme will enhance your employability and expand the horizons of your professional career paths.
  • Over the years, we have built strong links with local employers, such as independent film producers, radio stations and newspapers. These, along with our state-of-the-art multimedia facilities, will help you build a combination of practical and transferable skills, creative thinking and applied academic knowledge so that you stand out in a competitive job market.

In Semester 1 you study:

> Introduction to Media Management, Social Media Research Methods and Social Media Marketing and Analytics.

In Semester 2, you study:

  • Freelancing and Entrepreneurship, Media Project Design and Development
  • In your final semester, you choose a Dissertation or Practical Project in Social Media Management in an area of your own interest, agreed with your tutor.
  • This programme is aimed at both professionals and arts graduates. Its unique combination of technical, management and conceptual skills will help you forge a successful career in social media management.

International Student Scholarship - Postgraduate

The International Student Scholarship is available to International students joining for a taught programme at the University*.

Open to: International Students applying for a full-time taught programme.

Criteria: Must have accepted an offer from the University of Winchester. Students must have a first or second (higher) class equivalent degree and an IELTS of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in all categories. Recipients must also meet additional merit-based criteria.
