This selective-entry, research-oriented honours degree is designed for capable and highly-motivated students who want hands-on involvement in research projects.
It prepares you for the compulsory one-year internship that you will need to complete in order to gain Australia-wide registration as a pharmacist.
Once you've successfully completed the degree and the internship, you will be registered to practise in any area of pharmacy in Australia, including community or hospital pharmacy.
Alternatively, this degree provides you with a foundation from which you can progress with further studies, to achieve a range of other career opportunities.
As a pharmacist, you will:
prepare and dispense medicines in many forms. You will also give individuals advice on how to use their medicines in the safest and most effective way.
advise members of the public and other health professionals about both prescription and over-the counter medicines. You will provide advice regarding the selection of medicines, how much to take, how different medicines interact with each other, and any potential side effects.
work in the research and development of medicines and other health-related products. You can also can manage pharmacies or pharmaceutical companies.
provide public health services, such as vaccinations.
A one-year internship is required in order to gain Australia-wide registration, once your degree is complete.
On successful completion of the degree and your internship year, you will be able to work in:
community pharmacies
hospital pharmacies
the pharmaceutical industry (quality control, sales, marketing, and management)
the bio-pharmaceutical industry
clinical trials administration
drug information agencies
drug regulation for government or private companies
consulting to industry
pharmacy professional organisations
pharmacy academia
medical research and communications.
To study this program you will need to complete one of the following English proficiency tests:
IELTS (Academic): minimum overall band of 7.0 (with no individual band below 6.5)
TOEFL (Internet Based Test - IBT): minimum overall score of 94 (with minimum of 19 in Reading, 20 in Listening, 20 in Speaking and 24 in Writing)
Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE (A)): minimum score of 65 (with no communication band less than 58)
C1 Advanced: minimum of 185 with no less than 176 in any component.
